My Family | The people who make my life great. |
Genealogy Research |
My grandmother, Mary Ellen Raines (picture), was one of 12
children born to John Henry Raines and Mahala Adeline Bowers (chart).
(Chart with pictures [560K].)
I'm looking for family information and have found very little on the Raines ancestry other
than notes from her family Bible. The Bowers ancestry is well
documented online, thanks to the efforts of other descendants.
They lived in Jackson County, near Murphysboro, Illinois, before moving south sometime before 1900. My grandmother lived in
Memphis, Tennessee, around and after 1900 (based on the postmark on a postcard addressed to her).
Several family members are buried in Walker Cemetery, Poinsett County, Arkansas, which indicates
that they were living in the area by or before 1910.

There is a relationship to a
Kirksey family in or near Jonesboro, Arkansas. In a box of old pictures, there were
1960-1961 school pictures of children with the last name of Chestnut from Weiner and Waldenburg schools.
